Young NSW entrepreneurs get $12m innovation boost

NSW State’s leading eleven universities, and the CSIRO, are partnering with the NSW Government to develop a new statewide innovation network giving start-up businesses access to expertise and resources they need to make their idea a success.

Minister for Regional Development, Skills and Small Business, John Barilaro, has announced the $12 million Boost Program to connect start-ups and small-to-medium-sized businesses with qualified professionals, university resources and technology.

“The NSW Government is committed to encouraging entrepreneurs and boost business innovation in the cities and regional NSW,” he said.

“Start-ups are the future of the NSW economy and these partnerships are designed to help create new business ideas, new industries and jobs of the future.

“These partnerships will also help build new incubators and adapt existing facilities so businesses and the local community can network, access information and share ideas in a collaborative environment.”

Young Auburn active-wear entrepreneur Olga Moore said the incubator at the Western Sydney University (WSU) has provided her a unique platform to create ideas and develop innovative products, setting her apart from her competitors.

“When I first started to work on ideas, my space at home wasn’t productive for me and I had little direction to start my business,” Ms Moore said.

“Through the WSU innovation hub I have been able to collaborate with industry experts, networks and suppliers to develop my own clothing label and incorporate technology into my active-wear, something that will set me apart from my competitors.

“I am already working on ways to build up my business to sell nationwide, and one day take my products global.”
