Mehreen Ahmad was found unconscious on Saturday in a pool of her blood
Mehreen Ahmad, a Pakistani national, studying in Perth, was found unconscious in a stairwell in a Murray Street apartment block, in a pool of her own blood on Saturday morning.
Mehreen Ahmad, 31, remains in a critical condition after being bashed in the early hours of Saturday. She was found unconscious with serious head injuries in the stairwell of an apartment block in Murray Street in Perth’s CBD.
She had come to Australia from the United States and had been studying primary school teaching in Perth for two years.
Police has arrested 27-year-old Eduardo Santos Abrahao Filho on Saturday morning in Dundas Road in suburban Inglewood, charged with bashing and leaving Mehreen behind to die. According to Perth Now, the suspect, who was arrested by the police a day later, has been remanded in custody until June 7 after appearing in Perth Magistrates Court on charges of “grievous bodily harm”.
Ahmad was reportedly attacked by Eduardo Santos Abrahao Filho – who she met earlier that night, according to police. The woman, police said, had left her friends at the apartment to buy cigarettes but didn’t return.
She was later found in pool of her blood on the stairs. She remains in intensive care at Royal Perth Hospital, police said.
The 31-year-old Pakistani national from the US has been fighting for life since she was found unconscious early on Saturday morning.
Ms Ahmad’s parents flew in from their Dubai home on Sunday to be with her at the Royal Perth Hospital.
Her family say they are doing their best to help with the investigation, but are angered by the attack.
“Mehreen has been through an extremely traumatic experience which should not have happened and one which no person should have to endure,” the family said.
