The Minister for Emergency Services Troy Grant today officially opened the new $23 million Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW) headquarters in Greenacre.
Mr Grant said the official opening ushered in a new era for the organisation after being based in Sydney’s CBD for more than 130 years.
“FRNSW has a long and proud tradition of protecting the community in times of danger, no doubt this legacy will continue from the new modern headquarters in south west Sydney,” Mr Grant said.
“The state-of-the-art building gives firefighters every chance to perform at the top of their game.
“The new facility allows FRNSW to coordinate its operations effectively by ensuring key people are under one roof to respond when a major disaster or large-scale emergency hits.”
Fire & Rescue NSW Commissioner, Paul Baxter, said the new headquarters reflected a new era.
“There is a constant drive within Fire & Rescue NSW to keep improving its performance and the vital services it provides the community,” Mr Baxter said.
“It’s important we have the infrastructure that supports and enhances the organisation’s key capabilities – its ability to respond to fires and emergencies and to deliver a critical public safety message.
“The 1 Amarina headquarters allows us to do that, bringing much of the operational and administrative functions under one roof for greater efficiency.”
