The approval of a warehouse and distribution facility for spare parts for Toyota Australia at Kemps Creek could mean about 200 jobs for the area, Minister for Planning and Housing, Anthony Roberts said.
Mr Roberts said the approval by the Department of Planning and Environment meant construction of the facility at the Oakdale South Industrial Estate could get underway.
“This facility will generate $57.6 million and create 56 construction jobs and 138 ongoing jobs once complete,” Mr Roberts said.
“The facility will be in the Western Sydney Employment Area, the largest and fastest growing employment area in Sydney”.
The NSW Government expects this area to support about 60,000 jobs over the next 30 years and approximately 200,000 jobs once fully developed.
“In 20 years’ time, Western Sydney will be home to an extra 900,000 people and approval of projects such as Toyota’s proposed facility will continue to provide jobs closer to home for Western Sydney residents,” Mr Roberts said.
Member for Mulgoa, Tanya Davies, welcomed the development and the expected jobs which it will create.
“Western Sydney has accounted for about 40 per cent of the increase in NSW’s labour over the past five years.
“Since April 2011, the number of employed people in this area has increased by more than 100,000 to almost 1.259 million in March 2017.”
The Toyota facility, which will sit within the Oakdale South Industrial Estate, could be made up of 15 warehouses and ultimately see $330 million injected into the economy, creating 3000 construction jobs and up to 2000 jobs once operational.
The NSW Government welcomed Toyota’s investment, which was a sign of confidence in the State’s economy.
