The Tesla founder says he can build a 100MW battery storage farm within 100 days or provide the system free of charge
Elon Musk, the billionaire co-founder of electric car giant Tesla, promises to solve South Australia’s energy woes. Musk has just challenged the South Australian and federal governments, saying he can solve the state’s energy woes within 100 days – or he’ll deliver the 100MW battery storage system for free.
Since September, the Australian state of South Australia has suffered a string of blackouts, which has triggered fierce political debate over the state’s dependence on renewable energy, and how to avoid the problem going forward.
Now, Tesla founder Elon Musk has came forward to save the day with an offer that sounds too good to refuse. Musk – he says he can fix the state’s energy problems by installing a network of Tesla’s Powerwall 2 batteries, all in 100 days.
Australia billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes asked Musk on Twitter how serious he was about the bet. Musk replied : “Tesla will get the system installed and working 100 days from contract signature or it is free. That serious enough for you?”
Cannon-Brookes enthusiastically accepted the deal and said he’ll work on politics and funding for the project.
The official offer was made by Tesla’s vice president for energy products Lyndon Rive during meetings with Australian politicians and industry leaders this week, and made public on Twitter by Musk himself.
