The NSW Government has agreed to share the state’s vocational education training expertise as part of a new agreement signed with the Kingdom of Bhutan.
NSW Premier Mike Baird today met with Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay at NSW Parliament where the official signing took place.
Experts from TAFE NSW will travel to Bhutan to provide teacher training as the Himalayan nation looks to the NSW Government for assistance in strengthening its vocational education and training system in order to create more youth employment opportunities.
“Our vocational training system is highly regarded around the world and we are delighted to be able to share our knowledge and expertise with Bhutan,” Mr Baird said.
“The agreement will strengthen the relationship between NSW and Bhutan and will lead to more job opportunities for young people in Bhutan to support the nation’s economic growth.”
Minister for Skills John Barilaro said the NSW Government’s commitment to providing quality vocational education and training continues to deliver great outcomes for students, putting NSW on the map.
“TAFE is the leading public training provider in NSW and it is a privilege to work with Prime Minister Tobgay to share our vision and strategies in order to design the highest quality education and training for future workforces,” Mr Barilaro said.
Under the agreement, NSW Government will send staff from TAFE NSW to Bhutan to upskill local teachers. Teachers from Bhutan will then visit NSW to attend education workshops and learn about the TAFE NSW framework.
The NSW Government has committed $100,000 to the program to develop Bhutan’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training system (TVET).
