The 2015-16 Budget will see the NSW Government invest $175 million in sports and facilities across the State over the next year.
Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres said the funds will be spent on greater infrastructure and sporting programs to increase participation throughout local communities.
“The NSW Government is committed to engaging the sport and recreation industry through partnerships, providing grants to sporting organisations and managing Government sporting facilities,” Mr Ayres said.
“Whether you’re young or old, sport not only allows you to stay active and fit, but provides a great way of keeping in touch with friends or making new ones.
“This investment from the NSW Government provides sporting communities with the infrastructure and facilities they need to drive active participation,” Mr Ayres added.
Other key investment includes:
• $12 million over three years to assist with the development of the Western Sydney Sport and Community Centre in Penrith, including $8 million in
2015-16;
• $5.9 million in capital expenditure for upgrades to Sport and Recreation Centres and ex-Olympic venues;
• $5.8 million to support the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust to develop their masterplan;
• $5 million to assist with the development of the second circuit at Mount Panorama in Bathurst;
• $2.25 million to upgrade the Lithgow Aquatic Centre;
• $1 million additional funding for maintenance, safety and compliance works for Sport and Recreation Centres across NSW and ex-Olympic venues in Western Sydney;
• $1 million to assist with the development of the Northern Inland Centre of Excellence in Tamworth.
