A new report has revealed that Japan may be gearing up for war with the ever aggressive China. Apparently, already having the technology, they are capable of making at least 2,000 nuclear warheads.
The report comes from the Hong-Kong news organization, Asia Weekly, and outlines Japans secretive plans that are becoming more and more public. Asia Weekly writes, “With the capability to build at least 2,000 nuclear warheads, Japan has recently demanded the United States return 300 kilograms of plutonium. A Japanese military analyst told Yazhou Zhoukan that Washington has paid close attention to the potential development of nuclear weapons in Japan.”
China and Japan have endured, for quite some time, ever-growing tensions over the East China Sea dispute. The dispute argues where the actual borders lie for each country with a couple islands falling in the disputed territory.
China has been extremely aggressive when it comes to protecting what they believe to be theirs. For instance, they recently took a couple of warships around the islands as a sign of dominance against the much smaller country. Along with this, China has recently stated that the island is protected under the Chinese air defense zone.
As the agitation between countries continues to rise, it appears as if Japan is seeking to do something about it—or at least make it so they’re allowed to do something about it. Recently, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced that he was going to amend its constitution that specifically states that they are only allowed to militarily act in order to defend itself.
The newly changed constitution would allow for Japan to preemptively strike—if necessary—to put an end to a war before it began. In anticipation of this change, it appears that Japan is seeking to complete their nuclear warheads so that they may be used immediately after the constitution is changed.
That being said, Japanese companies such as Mitsubishi, Hitachi and Toshiba, already are said to possess the know-how on how to construct a nuclear device. This along with 200 other small companies that stand at the ready means that Japan could have a massive nuclear arsenal in a short time.
Japan already has over 40 tonnes of plutonium in their possession but has recently demanded the United States give back the 300 kilograms of plutonium that they were mandated to hand over at the hands of the Chinese. This extra amount would mean the Japanese could produce another 50 nuclear warheads.
China isn’t only a hindrance to Japan however as they have increasingly made more brazen threats directly against America. They have recently threatened that they have created a missile specifically designed to take out American air craft carriers—and ran a test with a mock American ship to prove it.
Along with this the excessive need to remind America that they are capable of taking out bases in the Western Pacific makes these threats all the more real.
So what do you think—is China becoming a threat to world peace?
