Sydney (By Alex Wisser): We are proud to announce that on February 1, 2013, the town of Kandos NSW (population 1300) will become the capital of contemporary art in Australia. The small industrial town in the heart of country NSW will host over 40 emerging and established contemporary artists as a part of Cementa_13, the first of an artist-run biennial festival celebrating the state of contemporary art practice in Australia.
For four days and nights artists will occupy sites across the town with installation, performance, sound art, video art, film, music video, and artist guided tours. The art works will specifically engage with or reflect the unique social character, history, and environment of Kandos at a defining moment of its history, marking both the centenary of its founding and the closure of the iconic Kandos Cement Works.Cementa_13 presents a unique opportunity to demonstrate the capacity of contemporary art to re-imagine a different future for this rural-industrial town in transition.
Cementa will take place from Friday February 1 to Monday February 4 2013. For more information visit the festival website: cementa13.com or Contact Alex Wisser via email: info@cementa13.com with any queries or interview requests.
