Tiny Tesla House is touring Australia to show off solar power potential

Tesla Tiny House hits the road in Australia with Model X

A tiny Tesla house is making the rounds of Australia – showing off its solar products and educating the public on how to generate, store and use renewable energy for your home. Tesla is using a Model X to tow a tiny house around Australia.

The tiny home is completely powered by 100% renewable energy courtesy of a 2kw solar power system and a Powerwall. Inside, there’s a design studio and configurator so you can calculate your own home’s needs. There will be Tesla staff on hand to answer questions, too.

“Powered by 100% renewable energy via a 2 kW solar system and Powerwall, Tiny House contains a mobile design studio and configurator which can calculate how your home can generate clean energy from the sun using solar panels, storing it in Powerwall to use throughout the day and night, which can all be monitored and controlled by the Tesla app.”

The Tesla Tiny House measures 6 by 2.2 by 4 meters, or approximately 19.7 by 7.2 by 13.1 feet, and is clad in locally sourced, sustainable wood. The simple structure is also entirely powered by renewable energy using six solar panels—not the solar roof tiles, unfortunately—and a Powerwall, the company’s game-changing home battery with a built-in inverter. The 2-kW solar system provides enough juice to keep the house fully powered.

Tesla is currently on a tour of Australia hitting all major cities, but people can also request for Tesla Tiny House to come to their town through Tesla’s website.

People can expect one-on-one educational sessions with Tesla staffs to learn about Tesla’s energy products:

“The tour is designed to provide a one-on-one educational experience on how to integrate Powerwall and solar to seamlessly power an entire home 24/7, allowing Australian consumers to gain control and understanding of their power use.”

According to Electrek, Australia is an important market for Tesla, as the country has the highest “per capita penetration of rooftop solar,” with 15 percent of households, or about 1.5 million using solar energy.

Tesla Tiny House specifications:

  • Weight – 2 tonnes
  • Dimensions – 6m x 2.2m x 4m
  • Solar generation – 2kW PV system of 6 panels
  • Solar storage – 1 x Tesla Powerwall
  • Exterior – Clad in locally sourced, chemical-free, sustainable timber
