ROYAL VISIT: KING CHARLES AND QUEEN CAMILLA JOIN WESTERN SYDNEY’S CULTURAL CELEBRATION AT COMMUNITY BBQ

Sydney, Tribune Report – 22 October 2024: Their Majesties, King Charles and Queen Camilla, graced a vibrant Community BBQ hosted by NSW Premier Chris Minns and Mrs. Anna Minns at Parramatta Park in Western Sydney. The event celebrated Australia’s rich cultural diversity, particularly in the Western Sydney region, with a modern twist on the traditional Aussie BBQ.

The BBQ featured multicultural interpretations of the iconic Australian sausage, or ‘sanger,’ with halal food stalls catering to the region’s large Muslim population. Local producers, including farmers and cattle ranchers supported by the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW, were proudly represented.

A key highlight was the participation of David Warner, whose presence at the Cricket NSW stall drew many young cricket enthusiasts. Other notable attendees included recent recipients of

Australian Honours, NSW Australian of the Year Awards, and local heroes such as NSW Police and firefighters, who also had vehicles on display.

The royal couple was warmly welcomed by NSW Premier Chris Minns, Mrs. Anna Minns, and Deputy Premier Prue Car. Their arrival was marked by a traditional Smoking Ceremony and a Yidaki (Didgeridoo) performance led by Peta Strachan and Matthew Doyle. The festivities continued with a collaborative Art Mandala project, where guests and school students created intricate Nature Crowns. The event offered a range of family-friendly activities, including Henna painting, Middle Eastern board games, a Bush Tucker stall, and backyard cricket hosted by Sydney Thunder, where David Warner remained a Favorite with young fans. A sheepdog display organized by the Royal Agricultural Society, as well as stalls from NSW State Emergency Services, NSW Rural Fire Service, and Surf Life Saving NSW, added to the festive atmosphere.

With around 550 guests in attendance and national and local media covering the event, the royal visit underscored Western Sydney’s role as a symbol of Australia’s multicultural identity and community spirit.
