Katy Perry and John Mayer ‘split’

JUST days after Robin Thicke and wife Paula Patton announced their split, comes news that John Mayer and Katy Perry have reportedly called it quits – again.

According to E! News, Perry called time on the couple’s two-year relationship earlier this week. A source told the website the pair had ended their union, but that no other details were available.

Mayer was noticeably absent from Perry’s recent performance at the Brit Awards in London, as well as her controversial appearance on the Moschino runway in Milan where she was booed for turning up late.

We reckon there must be an issue, though, given social media addict Mayer hasn’t tweeted since Monday, while equally rabid Twitter fan Perry has only sent out a series of innocuous tweets about her upcoming tour (although innocuous tweets are a Perry specialty).

Still, news of a split is something of a surprise given Perry has recently been sporting a massive diamond ring, and the two made a loved-up appearance on Ellen.

(Perry also recorded a duet with Mayer for his most recent album Paradise Valley.)

Perry has often spoken about her admiration for Mayer, once telling an interviewer, “I’ve been a fan of John’s for years before I got to actually kiss him.

“I’ve been such a fan, I think he’s so incredibly talented and gifted and a genius songwriter. So to be a part of anything he was doing was just natural.”

In an interview last December she said of their relationship, “We have a lot of fun. We have music as an understanding and love between each other and we connect.”

Mayer has been a lot more circumspect about their union, saying in an interview after they first split in 2013, “It was a very private relationship going in. It was a private relationship during and it’s a private relationship still.”

The two first went public with their off-and-on romance in mid-2012. They split briefly, reconciled, called things off again last March, but then seemed closer than ever. Or not.
