Sydney (Media Release): Minister for Citizenship and Communities Victor Dominello announced today that new governance arrangements at the Community Relations Commission (CRC) will include a part time Chairperson and a full time CEO.
These positions are now open for application.
Under the current management arrangements the CRC – the State’s peak multicultural body – is led by a full time Chairperson who is also the CEO.
“With the announcement of the retirement of long term CRC Chairman Stepan Kerkyasharian, the NSW Government will separate the roles of Chairperson and CEO, a decision supported by the CRC,” Mr Dominello said.
“This will bring the CRC a more flexible governance model that will allow the Chairperson to focus on advocacy activities and lead the CRC commissioners in developing strategic policy directions that respond to emerging community issues.
“As Mr Kerkyasharian has always done, the new Chairperson will also work to recognise and celebrate cultural diversity and promote inter-faith and inter-cultural activities.”
Mr Dominello said the new CEO will manage the day-to-day operations of the CRC, including budget and human resources, while also implementing the vision of the Chairperson and the commissioners.
“I encourage any person with experience working in communities to consider the new Chairperson’s role. Those with extensive senior management experience and an understanding of cross-cultural issues should consider the new CEO position.
“Mr Kerkyasharian, who has been described as ‘the hero of multiculturalism’, announced in May that he will be retiring later this year after 24 years chairing the CRC and its predecessor, the Ethnic Affairs Commission,” Mr Dominello said.
