THAILAND HALAL SCIENCE CENTER IS AN INSPIRATION FOR UMMAH

Thailand Halal Assembly has remarkable journey of success

(A news report prepared by Syed Atiq ul Hassan; 21 Dec 2022)

A bouquet of Thai Muslim philosophers, educators, scientists, technologists, and intellectuals has blossomed in the last twenty years to serve the Muslim Ummah.

The Muslims of Thailand today are proud to say that they have made great strides to implement the principles of Islam and Sharia for a halal lifestyle, and to distinguish between halal and haram by using modern science and technology.

It is hard to compare the Halal research and developments by Thai scientists, researchers, technologists, and academicians with those of any other Muslim country.

Thai Muslims’ achievements extend beyond developing aesthetically pleasing mosques, Islamic schools, the arts, culture, and libraries. They are meeting the modern requirements for Halal products & services and the Halal lifestyle by utilizing modern science, technology, and innovation. At Chulalongkorn University, excellence can be seen in the establishment of the Halal Food Examining Laboratory in 1995, which was transformed into the Halal Science Center (HSC) in 2004.

Halal Science Center, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand

The Halal Science Center, Chulalongkorn University is regarded as the first Halal science laboratory in the world. The HSC commits to developing Halal science, technology, and innovation.

In today’s technological era, halal industries, businesses, and religious institutions require the development of information technology platforms so that learning resources can be created, and databases can be built.

Hence, in accordance with the strategy and demand of the time, the Halal Science Center offered five workstations: Halal Forensic Laboratory (HAFOLAB), Halal Business Incubator of Halal Products (BIHAP), Halal Food and Nutrition Alert (HAFANA), Halal Big Data House (HABIDAH), and Halal Innovation Community Learning Center (HICOLEC).

Moreover, Halal Science Center collaborated with HALKEW Company Limited, a startup under Jamjuree Innovation Products Company and

Associate Professor Dr Winai Dahlan

Halal Science Development Foundation to launch THA Shop – an online business learning center. There are currently more than 100 SMEs participating in this mega project.

HSC, led by Assoc Prof Dr. Winai Dahlan, HSC’s founding director, presented its expertise and cooperation to the ASEAN Working Group on Halal Food
