WASHINGTON – Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif has said that Pakistan is taking decisive and indiscriminate action against Taliban militants including the Haqqani network.
Speaking at a banquet held in his honor at the Pakistan Embassy, the army chief said: “Action is being taken against all the militant groups including Taliban and Haqqani network without any discrimination”
He said that the operation against militants was not only confined to South and North Waziristan agencies instead action was being taken across the country.
The army chief expressed the hope that peace would return to the region as the operation was underway successfully.
The General, who is on official visit to the Unites States, said that he had positive meetings with US officials during his tour. “We are working in collaboration with Afghanistan… international community, especially, the US is extending cooperation,” General Sharif said.
Earlier, the army chief held meetings with US Special Representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan Daniel F. Feldman, National Security Advisor Susan Rice and members of Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and Committee on Foreign relations.
