Chiba to be gateway for Malaysian Halal products into Japan
Japan will be the latest country to import Malaysian halal food products, which are known for their freshness and hygiene.
Malaysia and Japan will work closely in respect of the development of halal products and the Japanese city of Chiba will become the gateway for the entry of Malaysian halal products into the country.
Agriculture and Agro-based Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the halal food products were not only for the Muslims in the country but also for the mass market.
Chiba, has been identified as the main entrance for the Malaysian halal products, which would be distributed and marketed in more than 1,800 “Aeon” hypermarkets in Japan as a early as next year, he said after presenting the certificates and machines to 343 agro-entrepreneurs in his Bera parliamentary constituency.
“It is also timely for Japan to start importing halal food as an early preparation to host the Olympic Games in 2020, when thousands of Muslim tourists and sportsmen will be in the country,” he said.
A joint committee between Malaysia and Japan would also be set up to ensure that the food products exported to Japan are clean, fresh and halal, he added.
To date, a large volume of halal food products from Malaysia were already exported to many countries including China, Dubai, Bahrain and Qatar.
