“Sharing stories like Women on the Edge is vital to making us all aware of the challenges and opportunities facing our ageing population.”
A story exploring the increasing number of older women seeking support for homelessness was the stand-out piece of journalism for judges at this year’s Ministerial Advisory Council on Ageing (MACA) Media Awards.
Minister for Ageing Tanya Davies and Chair of the MACA Kathryn Greiner AO last night presented SBS’s Insight program with the top ‘Gold Award’ accolade, while recognising winners from a further seven categories.
“Jenny Brockie and her team of producers at Insight worked incredibly hard to highlight this issue in a balanced and powerful way,” Mrs Davies said.
“Sharing stories like Women on the Edge is vital to making us all aware of the challenges and opportunities facing our ageing population.”
Ms Greiner said more than 150 nominations were received ahead of the awards ceremony in Sydney last night, hosted by ABC’s Ellen Fanning.
“The media plays a large part in shaping perceptions. The MACA Media Awards are the perfect opportunity to acknowledge and commend those in media who are doing an excellent job in changing opinion and reporting on ageing,” Ms Greiner said.
