Tony Abbott’s bittersweet Leadership win

Breaking news:( Live Tribune International, Canberra) – Thirty-nine liberal party members were hoping that it would be the last day that Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott holds the top seat in office. However, the motion was defeated with 39 to 61 in favour of Tony Abbott.

For the motion to be passed Liberal MPs needed to vote, they needed at least 51 of the 101 available to sustain the spill motion being passed.

Despite Tony Abbott’s close win there are questions being raised in the political and media circles whether this will be a rocky start to more internal battles within the Liberal party.

It’s been a tense and tumultuous day in the Australian capital, with Prime Minister Tony Abbott surviving a potential leadership spill. Today was also the first parliamentary sitting day for the year and as Abbott said, he prefers fighting Labor to his own party.
