The evening’s festivities will feature an amazing line-up of free family entertainment, live music, amusement rides and delicious food across four activation areas, before lighting up the night sky with a heart-stopping fireworks finale at 9pm.
“It’s been a successful albeit busy year for the City which has seen a range of exciting festivals, events and programs take shape in 2018,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Andrew Wilson said.
“Parramatta New Year’s Eve is the perfect time for the community to come together and celebrate the successes of the past year while looking toward the year ahead. I look forward to seeing everyone come down with their loved ones for what promises to be an unforgettable evening in Parramatta Park as we say goodbye to 2018.”
Hosted by MC Monica Trapaga (formerly of Play School), eventgoers will be able to spread out their picnic rugs at ‘The Crescent’ and sing along to classic tunes from the Golden Era with performances by Taya & the Organised Band, Sydney Jazz Orchestra and The Diamonds.
‘Coronation Hill’ will present families an ideal space to sit back and unwind with an exciting program hosted by Sean Murphy featuring performances by and ‘meet and greets’ with characters from animated hit Hotel Transylvania and ABC Kids’ SplashDance.
‘The Fairground’ and ‘Carnival on the Green’ areas will offer a great selection of amusement rides, snacks, face painting and colourful roving performers from the stilt-walking Vintage Circus Duo to the Circus Solarus – Samba Trio.
A range of delicious food options will also be available across the entire event site, including slow-cooked barbeque from Black Iron Smokers, ice cream sandwiches and sweet treats from crowd-favourite Stroop-Bros, Korean BBQ, paella, dumplings and more.
The entire evening will culminate with a grand fireworks finale at 9pm, illuminating the Parramatta skyline with an explosion of colour and light, visible from all areas within the park.
Executive Director of Parramatta Park Trust, Suellen Fitzgerald said the Trust was excited that the Park would once again host the City’s New Year’s Eve celebrations.
“New Year’s Eve is one of the largest events that we hold in the Park and a highlight in the Crescent Summer Series. With its picturesque grounds, heritage-listed buildings and short walking-distance from Parramatta and Westmead Stations, it’s Western Sydney’s favourite place to come together and the perfect venue to watch the end of year fireworks display,” she said.
Parramatta Park will be pedestrian-only from 1pm on Monday 31 December and attendees are encouraged to take public transport. A limited number of accessible parking spaces will be available inside the Park on request.
