‘I send my best wishes to all those attending the 2013 Chand Raat Eid Festival in Sydney and Melbourne’; Prime Minister

‘It is with great pleasure that I send my best wishes to all those attending the 2013 Chand Raat Eid Festival in Sydney and

Hon Julia Gillard, PM of Australia

Melbourne’.

‘Since 1998, the Chand Raat Eid Festival has enjoyed strong support in Sydney and has provided a wonderful opportunity for friends, family and the community to celebrate the ‘night of the moon’. It is in this spirit that we welcome, with great joy and excitement, the Chand Raat Eid Festival to Melbourne for the first time this year’.

‘Chand Raat is a time for families and friends to come together under the new moon that signals the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid ul Fitr. It is a time to share Muslim Australians’ rich heritage with the broader community and to reflect on the vibrancy and diversity of our multicultural society’.

‘As we celebrate together, we also pay tribute to the significant contribution of the Muslim Australian community to shaping our nation’s identity and influencing our history’.

‘I congratulate everyone whose hard work and commitment has contributed to making the Chand Raat Eid festival a success and trust that everyone will enjoy this year’s event’.

The Honourable Julia Gillard

Prime Minister of Australia
