Margaret Adamson says Australia is ranked at number three in offering education to international students.

The Australian government has offered 27 fully funded scholarships to Pakistanis under Australia Awards Scholarships Program in different fields for the year 2018.

Australia is planning to increase the number of scholarships for Pakistanis and will keep on enhancing the figures, Australian High Commissioner Margaret Adamson said in an interview to Radio Pakistan.

“Australia is ranked at number three in offering education to international students” Australian High Commissioner said. Australia has huge education attraction for international students as over 2.5 million students have studied in Australia over a period of time.

This year, around 27 Pakistani students have been awarded the scholarship in various energy and entrepreneurship program.

Explaining the focus area of scholarship, Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan Margaret Adamson said: “Innovation and entrepreneurship are playing an increasingly important role in economic growth and job creation in Pakistan.”

“We are glad to support Pakistan’s innovation trajectory through training in Australia’s world-class business institution,” she said, adding, “courses in energy management will help Pakistan harness the energy and hydropower potential of the Himalayas to enhance energy security, regional cooperation, and trade.”

This year “strong focus has been shifted towards the gender of applicants in which 50% is focused for female applicants”, she added

The High Commissioner also talked about the priority study areas that include a broad category of Economic Growth studies which has fields like Agriculture business, Business Management (including MBA), Development Studies, Economics, Water Resources Management (including Engineering).

Health and education based studies giving focus to Nutrition studies which is very important for Pakistan, public health; Good Governance, Stabilization and Gender Equality are also part of the Master courses.

Other than Master Programs, short course fellowship and short course informal learning opportunities are two other focus fields that are being offered under Australia Awards Program.

Australia has been providing scholarships to Pakistan since 1991 and offers around 100 scholarships annually.
